Badjao, Wow!

Name:Ronan Bennett Location:Cebu City, Philippines. Aiming for:Silver Award About the Author:I am a final year Bachelor of Education student in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick who enjoys art and theatre. Badjao, Wow! Encased in a mosquito net, I managed to avoid any bites but awaking in a pool of sweat with 70% humidity, I struggled to decide which would be considered the lesser evil. Never the less, the breakfast that awaited us softened the blow. Our kind hosts prepared bacon and eggs for us as well as the most succulent mangos.

Day Drops Today marked the beginning of our projects with the Badjao tribe and a long, tiresome yet rewarding day it was. Another early morning dawned on us and the familiarity of waking up sweaty and uncomfortable is yet to prove itself a normality. Breakfast was served again by our hosts here at The Holy Family Retreat Centre and it is always a welcome treat to be greeted by a fried egg in the morning accompanied by as much rice

For the price of a couple of lattes a week, I knew a child was having a chance to get through education without

Needle and thread

Name:Geraldine O’Brien Location:Uganda Aiming for: Silver Award About the Author:A newly qualified nurse, returning to Uganda for the third time this July Needle and thread Needle and thread in hand, I listened carefully to Ruth as she gave us a sewing lesson I never pictured myself having.
